The Clever Accounts idea started back in January 2003 when Chris Mollan set up the company, Your Online Accountants. Chris Mollan, a partner in a successful accountancy firm in York, had the idea of developing an online bookkeeping package for his own client's usage.
The online application was released to the general public in November 2003 and on the very same day had their first client sign up. It quickly became apparent that this tool was going to be extremely useful to small businesses, especially in conjunction when providing an accountancy support service.
Since then, the system has grown and adapted to client needs and many of those first sign up's are still with us today - so thanks to them!
In early 2006 we started developing online applications to other sectors, such as, charitable organisations who needed a standardised system to manage their own cash accounts. This has progressed since then and are working closely with many organisations within this field on various projects.
In 2007, we felt it was time to grow the business and thus have seen changes in structure and objectives that has seen the new web site developed together with entry in the accountancy partner market.
Our goal is to maintain and grow our market position in the UK and develop international systems for the worldwide market. However, our main objective is too keep the accounting system as simple as possible for small businesses to use.
There is a small team of dedicated staff at Clever Accounts who helped create the original idea. However, over the years we have built up partnerships with businesses and experts in order to grow the business.
Director
Chris started the business in 2003 while working in his accountancy practice; it was many long hours and sleepless nights until he saw the first working product released to the market.
Since then, Chris has been instrumental in growing the business and developing partnerships and new business in various sectors. Chris Mollan is the brains and driving force behind the business.
Lead Developer
Derren has been instrumental in developing the product from the very first line of code into the system it currently is now. He has worked on all projects for Clever Accounts and is (probably) one of the most experienced developers in this field in the UK.
Derren also runs a consultancy firm, together with working on various other projects when not dedicating his time and weekends to maintaining the system.
Non-Exec Director
Peter has been in the accountancy field for over 30 years and has built up valuable experience in working and advising small businesses in the joys of taxation. Over this time, he has witnessed computers becoming slowly embroiled into accountancy life and has himself been at the forefront of this technology. He is well positioned to comment about the benefits of online accounting.
Peter also runs a successful accountancy firm and has worked as a consultant to many high growth technology firms over the years.
